On Thursday, Danielle Williams of Jamaica surprised everyone by winning the women’s 100-meter hurdles event in Budapest.

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, the reigning Olympic champion, came in second with a timing of 12.44 seconds, while Kendra Harrison of the United States took third (12.46). The 30-year-old, who previously won in Beijing in 2015, finished first with a record of 12.43 seconds.

At the last obstacle, Williams, who was running in lane two for outsiders, triumphed alongside Camacho-Quinn and Harrison.

Williams, however, found just enough more to get ahead of her two more favored competitors. Because she was one of the two fastest losers, she barely made it into the final, making her victory all the more impressive. Williams exclaimed with joy, whirled around on her heel, put her hands to her face, and rushed back to the finish line before falling.
