Daniel Kwan and his colleague, Daniel Scheinert, are known as the Daniels. These are directors, producers, and screenwriters from the United States.

They began their career as music video filmmakers, including the well-known DJ Snake and Lil Jon music video for “Turn Down for What” (2013).

Since then, they’ve written and directed the surreal black comedy-drama Swiss Army Man (2016) and the science-fiction picture Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022).

Danny Kwan’s father, Ho Yuen, was sold at the age of four to a farmer in Canton, China, who needed someone to care for his cows, and then bought back by a wealthy uncle when he was ten.

Ho Yuen moved to Hong Kong in 1949 to hunt for work in a restaurant, leaving behind a pregnant wife, Yang Chun.

He promised to send for them when he had enough money, but China’s borders were closed within a few months.

Yang Chun was not allowed to join Ho Yuen in Hong Kong until 1956, when their small son, Danny, was able to meet his father.
