The San Diego Chargers of the National Football League were the team Daniel Francis Fouts played for his entire 15-season tenure as a professional quarterback in the game.

Fouts broke a number of records while playing college football for the Oregon Ducks, and he was later elected to the University of Oregon Hall of Fame as well as the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
When the University of Oregon offered Fouts a scholarship so he could play for the Ducks in Eugene, he was a bit of an unknown. During his first year there (1969), he made his debut for the freshman team.
When Adam Sandler’s football comedy The Waterboy came out in 1998, Fouts made his debut on the big screen by playing himself.

In 15 seasons, Fouts completed 3,297 passes for 43,040 yards and 254 touchdowns, and an 80.2-point rating. He also rushed for 476 yards and scored 13 touchdowns.

He was named a member of the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team, and elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993, his first year of eligibility.

In the end, poor defenses and the unwillingness to run the ball hurt the Chargers. Fouts career playoff record was 3-4.
Although he never won the big game for the Chargers, Fouts was elected to the Pro Football Hall-Of-Fame in 1993. Fouts finished his career with six pro-bowls and a 1982 NFL MVP award.

Dan Fouts Family
In 1977, Fouts married his first wife, public health major Julianne Mehl. The couple first met at the University of Oregon.
They later divorced, and Fouts married Jeri Martin for the second time in 1994. He had two children from his first marriage and two children from his second marriage.
Dominic, his first son, died of cancer in 2012. The Dominic Fouts Memorial Cancer Fund was established by the family, with Dan Fouts serving as an adviser.
He resides with his wife in Oregon, his alma mater’s state, in a two-story log home he built in the 1970s. The house is located near Sisters in the Alps.
