Australian thoroughbred racing jockey Damien Oliver rides horses. Oliver hails from a line of racecar drivers; his father Ray Oliver enjoyed a great career up until the time of his death in a race fall at the 1975 Kalgoorlie Cup in Western Australia. Oliver was honored by being admitted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2008.

In 1988, Damien Oliver began his riding career, and with the help of Lee Freedman and his stepfather Lindsey Rudland, he successfully finished his apprenticeship. In Bunbury, Western Australia, in March 1988, aboard Mr. Gudbud, he earned his first victory as an apprentice. The AJC Warwick Stakes was his first victory in a major event. He unfortunately got a number of wounds, including a shattered spine in 1996 from a fall at Moonee Valley.

It discussed Oliver’s interactions with his family as well as how he dealt with the passing of his brother Jason Oliver and went on to win the 2002 Melbourne Cup on Media Puzzle two weeks later.
