He made a name for himself in the film and literary industry during the mid-20th century and was a well-known writer who was blacklisted during the Hollywood blacklist period of the 1940s and 1950s.

Trumbo grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado, and studied at the University of Colorado. He started his career as a journalist but eventually moved to Los Angeles in the 1930s to pursue screenwriting. He became renowned for his clever wit, snappy dialogue, and captivating storytelling, and wrote for some of the biggest and most successful films of his time.

Trumbo’s political views and suspected affiliation with the Communist Party led to his blacklisting. However, he continued to write and used fronts and pseudonyms to receive credit for his work. Some of the successful films he wrote during this time include Roman Holiday and The Brave One.

The blacklist was finally lifted in the late 1960s, and Trumbo was able to receive credit for his work. In 1992, he received a posthumous Oscar for his writing on The Brave One film and was officially credited as the writer of Roman Holiday by the Writers Guild of America in 1993.
