Cynthia Morrison Loses Agona West NPP Parliamentary Primary

Cynthia Morrison, the incumbent MP for Agona West, suffered defeat in the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary held on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Securing 152 votes, Morrison was outpaced by Christopher Arthur, who garnered 240 votes to become the Parliamentary Candidate. The election took place at Otabilkrom Astroturf, Agona Swedru.

Other contenders in the race included Ben Yamoah with 221 votes, Yawson Otoo with 168 votes, and Joseph Afrankwa with 155 votes.

Morrison, who served two terms as MP, won the seat in the 2016 elections. She faced competition from Charles Obeng-Inkoom of the National Democratic Congress and Evans Idan Coffie of the Convention People’s Party.

In the 2020 election, Morrison secured 30,513 votes out of a total of 59,193 valid votes cast, defeating Paul Ofori-Amoah of the opposition National Democratic Congress, who secured 27,673 votes, and an independent candidate, Ishmael Kofi Tekyi Turkson, who had 1,007 votes.
