The curfew enforced on Alavanyo and Nkonya townships, along with their surrounding regions in the Oti Region, has been extended. Henry Quartey, the Minister for the Interior, reasserted this curfew through executive mandate.

Effective from Sunday, May 12, 2024, the curfew hours remain fixed from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Initially implemented on Sunday, June 18, 2023, by former Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, this curfew renewal follows ongoing tensions between the two communities, which have previously resulted in tragic incidents.

The Minister for the Interior has, by Executive Instrument, renewed the curfew hours imposed on Alavanyo and Nkonya Townships and their environs in the Oti Region from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., effective Sunday, May 12, 2024.

The government continues to express its appreciation to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area for their efforts in ensuring peace in the area and urges them to use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes.
Meanwhile, the government would like to reiterate that there is a ban on all persons in the two towns and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, and any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
