Crystal Gayle is a country music singer known for the 1977 hit song “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue”, a Billboard Hot 100 track at the time.
Born on January 9, 1951, in Kentucky, United States, Gayle ranks amongst the most successful artists of the 1970s and 80s.
Gayle launched her music career in the 1960s as a backup singer in her sister, Loretta Lynn’s band, until 1970 when she got signed with Decca Records in 1970.

In 1975, Gayle adopted the country pop style and released the hit song “Wrong Road Again”. Afterwards, she went ahead to do a number of solo tracks such as “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue”, “Ready for the Times to Get Better” (1977), “Talking in Your Sleep” (1978), “Half the Way” (1979) and “You and I” (1982).
Gayle also released albums including Someday (1995), Crystal Gayle Sings the Heart and Soul of Hoagy Carmichael (1999).
Gayle is a multiple Grammy Award winner and nominee. In addition to her accolades, she has won five Academy of Country Music awards; a Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award, two Country Music Association awards and three American Music Awards.
As one of the greatest women of country music, Gayle has earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
