Late NFL star Craig Heyward was chosen by the New Orleans Saints as the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 1988 NFL Draft.

Heyward rushed for 1,791 yards in 1987 at Pittsburgh, earning unanimous All-America honors and ranking fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

He recorded a total of 3,086 career rushing yards.

Craig played for the New Orleans Saints (1988–1992), Chicago Bears (1993), Atlanta Falcons (1994–1996), St. Louis Rams (1997), and the Indianapolis Colts (1998).

He also won the Pro Bowl in 1995 and the Consensus All-American award in 1987.

Heyward was known for his startling quickness, agility, and his massive physique.

He was ranked amongst the top “big man” rushing backs in the NFL.

With a 330 pounds weight and a height of 5 ft 11inches, Heyward’s 1995 season was the last time a fullback rushed for 1,000 yards.

Heyward died from a brain tumor on May 27, 2006, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. He was aged 39.
