A lock for Premiership Rugby team Northampton Saints and the England national team, Courtney Lawes (born 23 February 1989) is an English professional rugby union player.

Lawes earned England representative honors for the U18 team and traveled to Australia in 2007 with the England Under 18s. Despite being injured in 2008, he participated in the IRB Junior World Championship despite missing the U20s Six Nations.
In the summer of 2009, Lawes made his debut for the England Under 20 team, which lost to New Zealand in the championship game of the IRB Junior World Championship in Tokyo.

Lawes was chosen for the England Saxons squad in July 2009, and coach Martin gave him his first call-up to the senior England team in October 2009.

Linford, a Jamaican, and Valerie, an Englishwoman, gave birth to Courtney on February 23, 1989 in Hackney, England. Jamaican-born Linford is his father. Courtney recalled Linford mentioning that Rugby was a little tough for kids because of his background in football and cricket.
