Raphael Okoe Ankrah, better known as Okoe Killer, a 40-year-old tile setter, was remanded into police prison by an Accra Circuit Court for insulting President Nana Akuffo-Addo. Okoe Killer was apprehended after police discovered a video of him on social media using derogatory language at the President.

He has since pleaded not guilty to offenses leading to breaches of the peace.

Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, presiding over the Court, directed that Ankrah be brought back on May 30, 2023.

Ankrah lives in Jamestown, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Maxwell Oppong.

He stated that on May 15, 2023, the Police Department came across a viral video in which Ankrah was seen disrespecting the President.

According to ASP Oppong, Ankrah was arrested because the video was not only nasty but also disturbed and agitated the people.

Ankrah was apprehended at his hideout in Accra’s James Town by the Police Intelligence Directorate.

According to the prosecution, Ankrah admitted to the crime in his investigation cautionary statement and was charged as a result.

He suggested that the video could have been edited and that his client was innocent of the charges until it was produced and scrutinized in court.

Mr. Dankwa stated that Ankrah, a “responsible father” with a wife and a two-week-old child, was not a flight risk.

Mr. Yaw Dankwa, Ankrah’s Defense Attorney, who sought for bail for the accused, stated that the accusation did not support the facts, which he claimed were political in nature, because his client denied the offense upon arrest.

He claimed Ankrah had “people of substance” standing surety for him.

In opposition to bail, the prosecution asked the Court to commit the accused to a psychiatric facility since he told officers he was not in his right mind.

Based on Ankrah’s statements in the video, ASP Oppong believed he would be safer in police custody because his life was in danger in his community.
