Cormac McCarthy Net Worth At The Time of Death

American writer, Cormac McCarthy reportedly had an estimated net worth of around $10 million at the time of death. Considering that he was a renowned author and screenwriter who was known for numerous books and movies, it is understandable that he has been able to rake in such a great amount of wealth over the years.

Born on July 20, 1993, Cormac McCarthy’s debut novel dubbed The Orchard Keeper, was published in 1965. He traveled to Southern Europe, where he penned his second novel titled Outer Dark in 1968, and released his third novel 11 years later – Suttree. 

He wrote his fifth novel Blood Meridian (1985) after a MacArthur Fellowship enabled him to travel to the American Southwest. He became a successful and commercial author through his 1992 book All the Pretty Horses, for which he received both the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Awards.

McCarthy went on to release several books before the 2000s. Some of them are The Crossing (1994), Cities of the Plain (1998), and the Border Trilogy. He began the 2000s with his book No Country for the Old Men (2005) and The Road (2007). While the 2005 book did not make as much impact in the ‘book’ world as The Road, it was adapted into a film in 2007 and became a massive success, winning four Academy Awards including Best Picture.

During the latter part of his career, he worked with the Santa Fe Institute and published the essay, ‘The Kekule Problem’ in 2017 – which explores the human unconscious, and the origin of language.

McCarthy was elected to the American Philosophical Society on 2012. Some of his final novels include The Passenger – published on October 25, 2022, and Stella Maris – published on December 6, 2022.
