Conrad Janis Cause Of Death: How Did Conrad Janis Die?

Conrad Janis, a prolific character actor of TV, film, and stage who became instantly recognizable even before winning his iconic role in the famous ’70s sitcom Mork & Mindy opposite Robin Williams and Pam Dawber, died March 1 in Los Angeles. He was 94 years old.

Dean A. Avedon, his business manager, verified his death to The New York Times. His cause of death has not been released to the general public yet.

Janis, the son of noted New York art collectors and gallerists Sidney and Harriet Janis, who later took over the family business, the Sidney Janis Gallery, was also a successful and lifelong jazz trombonist who performed regularly with his group, the Beverly Hills Unlisted Jazz Band, even at the height of his Mork & Mindy success.

Conrad Janis was born in Manhattan on February 11, 1928. Early in their marriage, his parents had a successful shirt-making business, which enabled them to begin collecting art and, in 1948, open the Sidney Janis Gallery, which became, as The New York Times put it in Sidney Janis’s obituary in 1989, “a major pacesetter for the art world in the 1950s and ’60s.”
