This fight marks McGregor’s comeback after nearly three years since his last bout. The Irish fighter’s hiatus was due to a broken leg suffered in his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021
McGregor and Chandler had coached against each other on the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series, with a planned showdown after the season ended.

However, scheduling McGregor’s return proved challenging. The fighter took on a major acting role in the remake of Road House, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video last month.

While promoting the film, McGregor expressed frustration at the delay in setting a fight date, even calling out UFC officials on social media.
McGregor had previously hinted at a return during the UFC’s International Fight Week, and the announcement was finally made official by UFC president Dana White during the UFC 300 post-fight press conference on April 13, 2024.
A former two-division champion, McGregor has had mixed results in recent years, winning just once since 2016. His upcoming bout against Chandler promises to be a tough challenge, as Chandler is known for his exciting fighting style.
