Cola Boyy, Singer and Disability Rights Activist, dead at 34

Renowned musician and disability rights activist Matthew Urango, popularly known as Cola Boyy, has tragically passed away at the age of 34 in March 2024.

The cause of Cola Boyy’s death remains undisclosed at this time.

The announcement of Urango’s passing was made by his manager, Jack Sills, via Instagram on Monday, March 18, 2024.

In a heartfelt tribute, Sills described Urango as having a “larger than life personality” and highlighted his talent, humility, and dedication to his community. Sills also mentioned that Urango had recently completed work on his upcoming album and was eager to share new music with his fans.

Born with spina bifida, scoliosis, and kyphosis, Urango was a passionate advocate for disability rights throughout his life.

He initially gained recognition as the bass player for the Sea Lions before embarking on his solo career in 2018. His debut EP, “Black Boogie Neon,” featured hit singles like “Penny Girl” and “Buggy Tip.”

Cola Boyy’s debut album, “Prosthetic Boombox,” released in 2021, showcased collaborations with renowned artists such as the Avalanches, MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden, Godin, John Carroll Kirby, among others.

Urango’s untimely demise has left a void in the music industry and the disability rights community, but his legacy as a talented artist and dedicated activist will continue to inspire generations to come.
