The Kpando Municipal Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intercepted three trucks suspected of smuggling cocoa beans at Kpando Torkor in the Volta Region.

The vehicles, bearing registration numbers GE 1782-U, AS 7907-22, and GT 5932-12, were apprehended between 0040 and 0400 hours on Friday, April 12, 2024.
According to Superintendent Michael Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs, GIS, Deputy Superintendent of Immigration (DSI) Peter Austin Hall, and a team of officers were dispatched to Kpando Torkor based on intelligence received.
Upon arrival, officers covertly observed the unloading of bags of cocoa beans from a boat suspected to have originated from the Afram Plains.
The beans were being transferred into the three awaiting trucks parked near the landing site, intended to be smuggled through an unauthorized route at Wli to Togo.

Three suspects, identified as Wahab Abdulai, Nicholas Agbesi, and Fodume, all aged 42, were apprehended in connection with the smuggling operation.
The suspects and the seized trucks have been handed over to the Kpando Police for further investigation and legal action.
Superintendent Amoako-Atta reiterated the GIS’s commitment to border protection and the prevention of cross-border crimes. He commended the cooperation of border residents and the public in sharing valuable information with the Service.
Encouraging citizens to remain vigilant, he urged them to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the GIS and other security agencies as part of the “See Something, Say Something” campaign.
