Alex Murdaugh had been convicted of killing his wife and son, following a trial that lasted six weeks, with 75 witnesses testifying over 800 pieces of evidence.

Prosecutors are of the opinion that the murders were an attempt to shift attention from the theft from the family firm to fund his drug addictions.
Alex Murdaugh had denied the claims, saying that he was asleep when his wife and son were murdered.
Alex Murdaugh had admitted stealing millions of dollars from his clients but still claims he had not committed the murders.
“I would never hurt Maggie, and I would never hurt Paul – ever – under any circumstances,” he said.
Experts agreed that there was no evidence of blood on clothing, even though the murder scene was bloody. Also, no murder weapons have been found.
Other allegations against Alex include his betrayal of friends and clients, “his failed attempt to stage his own death in a multi-million dollar insurance fraud scheme, a fatal boat crash in which his son was implicated, the housekeeper who fell to her death in the family’s home, the scene of the killings and Bubba, the chicken-snatching Labrador.”
Alex is set to be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The story now comes out as a Netflix documentary series titled Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal.
