Tragedy struck in Dambai, the municipal capital of Krachi East in the Oti Region, as clashes between police officers and irate youth resulted in the death of a 19-year-old resident, Mensah Kwaku Sey.

According to accounts from residents, the confrontation ensued when police on night patrol attempted to arrest some local youth allegedly involved in drug use.
The situation escalated as the youth resisted, leading to chaos and the firing of warning shots. Tragically, Sey was struck by a stray bullet during the altercation and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Confirming the incident, Mr. Emmanuel Atali, the Assembly member for Dambai Lakeside, recounted hearing a gunshot on Sunday, May 2024, evening, prompting him to investigate, only to find Sey lying in a pool of blood.

The body was subsequently taken to Worawora Hospital for preservation after the incident was reported to the police.
The clash sparked panic among residents, with people fleeing for safety as tensions flared. Additionally, two police motorcycles were reportedly damaged by enraged members of the community.
In response to the incident, authorities have arrested two individuals to aid in the ongoing investigation. However, both the Divisional and Regional Police Commands have remained tight-lipped about the matter, declining to comment when approached by the Ghana News Agency for verification.
