Clare Marx Cause of Death

Dame Clare Marx CBE, DL, MBBS, PRCS, former President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England passed away on November 2022, at the age of 68. Marx was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2021.

Clare Marx chaired the LNC and the Medical Staff Committee, and she was heavily involved in many of the Hospitals’ governance and new project groups. In 2009, she was elected to the RCS Council.

She was elected to the Council of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and was elected President of the BOA in 2008-09.

She was appointed associate Medical Director at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust in 2013, with a special responsibility for revalidation and appraisal, and she remained in that position after retiring from active orthopaedic practice in March 2014.

Dame Clare became the first woman to be elected President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in July 2014. She became the first woman to chair the General Medical Council five years later (GMC).

She resigned from the GMC in 2021, at the age of 68, after being diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer.
