CJ Harris was an American singer.

Raised in Jasper, Alabama, Harris spent his summers working for his grandfather, whom he credits as a mentor.

At age 8, he commenced learning the guitar on a broken one gifted to him by his grandfather; it only had three strings. Harris also played piano and his singing was mostly self-taught.

Harris shot to prominence in 2014 after auditioning on American Idol season 13, where he wowed the judges with a rousing rendition of Allman Brother’s Band Soulshine.

Harris was chosen by the panel as a ‘wildcard’ in the semi-finals and he finished in sixth place on the show.

He had previously auditioned for The Voice and The X-Factor.

After American Idol, CJ went on to perform in several shows.

Harris released his debut single, “In Love” in 2019.

CJ Harris passed away from a suspected heart attack on January 15, 2023, at age 31 at a hospital in Jasper, Alabama.
