During the 1980s, Cindy Sherman began to use color film, to exhibit very large prints, and to concentrate more on lighting and facial expression. Cindy Sherman and David Byrne were members of Portugal’s Estoril Film Festival’s jury in 2009.

Cindy Sherman returned to ironic commentary upon clichéd female identities in the 1990s, introducing mannequins into some of her photographs. In 1997 she directed the dark comedic film Office Killer.

In 1982, Cindy Sherman began her Pink Robes series which includes Untitled #97, #98, #99, and #100. In Fairy Tales, 1985, and Disasters, 1986–1989, Cindy Sherman uses visible prostheses and mannequins for the first time.

Cindy Sherman ventured into the fashion industry with designs for Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Marc Jacobs. Cindy Sherman created photographs for an editorial in Harper’s Bazaar in 1993.

Cindy Sherman’s first solo exhibitions in France were presented by Galerie Chantal Crousel in Paris. Cindy Sherman has participated in numerous international events, such as SITE Santa Fe (2004); the Venice Biennale (1982, 1995); and five Whitney Biennials.
