Cindy Montañez parents: Meet Manuel Montañez and Margarita Montanez

Late Cindy Montanez was born to her parents, Manuel Montañez and Margarita Montanez.

She was the fourth of six children. Her other siblings are Ezequiel, Maribel, Miguel, Robert and Norma.

Who Was Cindy Montañez?

Cindy Montañez was an American Democratic politician, whose tenure was marked by several groundbreaking achievements.

Montañez’s journey in public service began in 1999 when she was elected to the San Fernando City Council, a role that would become the starting point for an illustrious career.

What made her election remarkable was that, in 2001, her older sister, Maribel de la Torre, joined her on the same city council, making history as the first pair of sisters to concurrently serve in such a capacity.

In February 2004, Montañez achieved another milestone when she was named the chairperson of the Assembly Rules Committee.

At just 30 years old, she became the youngest person ever to hold this prestigious position. Her appointment also marked a momentous occasion as she became the first Latina and the first Democratic woman to chair the committee.

Throughout her political career, Montañez was a tireless advocate for the issues that mattered most to her constituents in California’s 39th State Assembly district.

Education, the environment, healthcare, and consumer/worker protection were among her core priorities.

Montañez was dedicated to creating positive change and ensuring that the voices of the people she represented were heard in the state legislature.

In 2015, Montañez attempted to challenge for a full-term seat but lost the election by a margin of 39% to 61%. Despite this setback, her legacy continued to inspire many aspiring politicians who followed in her footsteps.

Tragically, on October 21, 2023, Cindy Montañez passed away at her San Fernando home. Her life was cut short by an aggressive and ultimately terminal cancer diagnosis. She was only 49 years old at the time of her passing.
