Grimmie held a meet-and-greet for her fans on June 10, 2016, following a concert in Orlando, Florida. Kevin James Loibl, a 27-year-old from St Petersburg, was one of them, arriving with two handguns and a hunting knife.

Loibl shot Grimmie four times while she signed autographs, then turned the gun on himself. Later that evening, Grimmie was pronounced dead. She was 22 years old at the time.

Grimmie, a Marlton, New Jersey native, finished third in Season 6 of NBC’s singing competition “The Voice,” which aired in 2014. When she auditioned for Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” she was just 19 years old and chose Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine as her coach.

Side A, Grimmie’s second EP, was released in 2016. In 2017, Side B, a follow-up to Side A, was released on Spotify and iTunes, and Grimmie’s second and final album, All Is Vanity, was released posthumously in June 2017. Her YouTube channel surpassed four million subscribers in 2019, but it dropped below four million in 2020.
