Pine was born on August 26, 1980 in Los Angeles, California to Robert Pine, an actor who co-starred on CHiPs as Sergeant Joseph Getraer, and Gwynne Gilford, a former actress who became a psychotherapist.

Pine made his feature film debut as Lord Devereaux in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004).
