Christopher Michael Benoit was a professional wrestler from Canada. During his 22-year career, he worked for various pro-wrestling promotions, including the World Wrestling Federation/World Wrestling Entertainment (WWF/WWE), World Championship Wrestling (WCW), and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) in America, as well as New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) in Japan.

According to District Attorney Ballard and the city sheriff, Chris Benoit committed suicide by hanging. Benoit hung himself with a weight machine cable by making a noose from the end of the cord on a pull-down machine with the bar removed.

Chris Benoit appears to have suffered from a condition known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). The Sports Legacy Institute’s Julian Bailes conducted the tests, which revealed that Benoit’s brain was so severely injured that it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer’s patient.

According to Bailes and his study team, this damage was caused by a lifetime of recurrent concussions and brain trauma suffered while Benoit was in the wrestling ring.
