Sampa, a town in the Bono Region of Ghana, witnessed a tragic turn of events on Good Friday, March 29, 2024, as a longstanding chieftaincy dispute claimed two lives amid gunfire.

Reports indicate that unknown gunmen unleashed chaos in the area, firing shots indiscriminately in connection to the ongoing chieftaincy conflict. As a result, two individuals lost their lives in the violence.

Details surrounding the identity of the gunmen and the motives behind the attack remain unclear at this time, heightening concerns over the escalating insecurity in Sampa.

Videos circulating on social media depict the aftermath of the violence, with images showing the victims lying lifeless in pools of blood. Residents expressed shock and dismay at the deteriorating security situation in their community.

The chieftaincy dispute in Sampa dates back to 2015 when Nana Yaw Sammor-Duah was installed as the Omanhene by one faction. However, tensions flared anew with the recent enstoolment of Nana Samgba Gyafla II as the new Sampahene, adding fuel to the already volatile situation.
