Cheryl Roberts, a sports activist from South Africa died on Friday, October 7, 2022 morning at the age of 60.

Her sister Sharon confirmed this to News24 Sport, saying Cheryl was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago.
“She was battling. “She was going through her treatment and coming through,” Sharon explained.
“It was worsening and progressing in the last few months.” When we received treatment authorization, the cancer was progressing. “When we last spoke to her, we could see that her strength was fading.”
Cheryl Roberts was a well-known sports activist who represented South Africa in table tennis at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

Through her writing and social media posts, Roberts was a vocal supporter of transformation and women’s sports.
South African Rugby president Mark Alexander said in a tweet from the Springbok team’s Twitter account that the passing of Roberts saddened them.
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Cheryl Roberts, a staunch supporter of women’s sport, a champion of equal opportunities, and an activist for women on the SA sporting landscape,” Alexander said.
“May she rest in peace and our thoughts are with her family.”
