It was valued at $2.6 billion when it was approved for listing on the London Stock Exchange in 2000.
CPW launched a beneficial relationship with Best Buy eight years later, which finally led to the foundation of Best Buy Europe.
The newly formed company has a number of assets, including CPW’s retail operation, which operates over 2400 locations in nine countries across Europe.
The company stated in March 2020 that it would close all 531 standalone UK locations the following month, with sales operations continuing within co-located “shops within shops” at Currys PC World stores and online.
This measure was supposed to be the result of a shifting mobile market.
On 21 April 2021, the company announced that the entire business in Ireland, including all 69 standalone stores in Ireland, 12 outlets within other stores, and the carphonewarehouse.ie website would close with immediate effect, with the loss of 486 jobs.
