Charanjit Singh captained the Indian hockey team that won the gold medal in the 1964 Summer Olympics at Tokyo, Japan.
Charanjit Singh was born in Mairi, Himachal Pradesh and he was also a member of Indian hockey team which won a silver medal in the 1962 Asian Games.

Legendary hockey player Charanjit Singh, who had captained the gold-winning Indian team in 1964 Tokyo Olympics, died on January 27 at his home in Una, Himachal Pradesh. Singh was 90.

Charanjit Singh suffered a cardiac arrest after prolonged illness.
“It is a sad day for the hockey fraternity,” Hockey India (HI) president Gyanendro Ningombam said. “Even in his old age, he would light up every time there were conversations about hockey and he could accurately recall every great moment he was part of India’s golden days of hockey.”
The hockey legend, who was partially paralysed after suffering a stroke five years ago, leaves behind two sons and a daughter.
Charanjit Singh’s last rites were performed on Thursday (Jan. 27, 2022) evening.
