Chalapathi Rao was an Indian actor and producer. He was known for comedy and villainous roles in Telugu cinema.
Rao was born Tammareddy Chalapathi Rao on May 8, 1944 in Baliparru, India to Maniyya and Vijayamma.
He made his acting debut in 1966 with “Ghodachari 116.” Alongside A-list actors like N. T. Rama Rao, Krishna, Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi, and Venkatesh, he played supporting roles.

Chalapathi Rao subsequently starred in over 600 films including Gulabi (1996), Chilakkottudu (1997), Snehithudu (1998), Sri Ramulayya (1999), Chala Bagundi (2000), Sampangi (2001), Aadi (2002), Simhadri (2003), Malliswari (2004), Pourusham (2005), Kithakithalu (2006)), Lakshyam (2007), Okka Magadu (2008), Naa Style Veru (2009), Ranga The Donga (2010), Veera (2011), Friends Book (2012), Sevakudu (2013), Legend (2014), Tungabhadra (2015), Soggade Chinni Nayana (2016), Jaya Janaki Nayaka (2017), Ammammagarillu (2018), Ruler (2019), Johaar (2020), Aaradugula Bullet (2021), Bangarraju (2022), and many others.
Chalapathi Rao was married to Indumaty Chowdrani and together they had three children; Ravi Babu, Malini Devi and Sridevi.
Rao died from a heart attack on December 24, 2022, in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
