On January 22, 1966, in Jefferson City, Tennessee, the American birthplace, Carolyn Peck was given the name Carolyn Arlene Peck. Before beginning her career as a sportscaster, the stunning sports journalist played basketball in college before switching to coaching.

In Italy in 1991, Carolyn spent a month playing basketball professionally. Following that, she spent the next two years playing for Japan’s Nippondenso Corporation, where she won a league title, before calling it quits on her professional playing career.

In 1995–1996 and 1996–1997, respectively, she served as a coach at the Universities of Kentucky and Purdue after serving as the head coach’s assistant for two years at Tennessee under the direction of Pat Summits.

At Vanderbilt University, Carolyn Peck met James O’Brien, the man who would become her husband. In May 2014, James and Carolyn exchanged vows.

Peck is best recognized for becoming the first African American woman to coach a team to the women’s Division I basketball national championship team when she took over the WNBA.

With the Purdue Boilermakers, she won the 1999 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship. That year, she was also named the Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year by the Associated Press.
