Carol Spares: Who is Willie Carson’s ex-wife?

Carol Spares is the ex-wife of retired jockey in thoroughbred horse racing Wille Carson.

Spares and Carson got married in 1963.

However, after 16 years of marriage, which produced three sons; Anthony, Neil, and Ross, the couple divorced in 1979.

Speaking in 1993, Spares went on to describe how her husband was spending more and more time away from home before she realized he had met Suzanne Kane, who came from a wealthy family and worked as a secretary at a racing stables.

The couple split up during the affair.

Spares said;

‘She wasn’t the first. He’d had other flings before that. I suppose I just tried to push them out of my mind.’

In 2009, Spares accused Carson of selfishly ‘dropping’ her when it was convenient for him.

Spares was of the view that Carson used her as a ‘springboard’ for his career before leaving her and their three sons.

Following the divorce, Carson got married to Elaine (m. 1982).
