At first, they weren’t keen on Carl choosing art over a scholarship, but Carl went ahead and made a name for himself in New York City during the 1950s.
He became a big deal in Minimalism. His sculptures were unique, made from regular stuff like bricks, wood, and steel, arranged in cool patterns that challenged what people thought art should look like.

Some of his famous works include “Equivalent VIII” and “Lever”. He also did big sculptures in public places, like “Stone Field Sculpture” in Connecticut.
However, there’s controversy around him because of his wife’s tragic death. Despite this, Carl kept making art until he passed away in 2024. His work still gets people talking and thinking.
Carl Andre passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 88.
