About Candida Auris?

Candida auris is a fungi specie that grows as yeast and can lead to candidiasis in humans.

The word “Candida Auris” is derived from the Latin word for ear, auris.

Candidiasis often befalls patients with weak immune systems, and affects the central nervous system, and internal organs.

Unfortunately, treating this condition is often very complicated, as it tends to fight medications.

Auris first appeared in the United States in 2013, before it later spread to other continents. However, the root if its emergence is still speculative.

In Europe, the C. auris first broke out in 2016 in Royal Brompton Hospital, a London cardio-thoracic hospital.

The following year, about 77 cases were reported in the United States, out of which 69 were from New York and New Jersey.

Candida auris has attracted  clinical attention all over the world because of its multiple drug resistance.

As of today, no vaccine has been able to cure Candida auris. Several experiments involving the NDV-3A vaccine  only “boosted the protective efficacy of the antifungal drug micafungin.”
