Michael Ball made his West End debut in 1985 as Marius Pontmercy in the original London production of Les Misérables. Michael Ball gained fame in 1987 for his role as Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera.

In 1995, Michael Ball reprised his role as Marius in Les Misérables: The Dream Cast in concerts.

Michael Ball has won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical twice, in 2008 for his role as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray and in 2013 for Sweeney Todd.

Michael Ball was recognized with the appointment of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2015 Birthday Honours for his contributions to musical theatre.

Michael Ball co-hosted the Olivier Awards with Imelda Staunton on March 13, 2011, at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London.

Michael Ball’s album Heroes was released on March 14, 2011, and entered the UK charts at number 10.
