If James can match his point total from this season, which came on his highest scoring average (29.7 PPG) since 2009-10, he will pass Abdul-Jabbar in his 20th season. James, who is still an All-NBA player, has stated that he intends to play beyond the end of his current deal next season.

James has 10 games left this season, and if he averages at least 25 points per game, he would finish the 2021-2022 season with a point total of 37,235. This leaves James with a 1,152-point deficit. He’ll catch Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in only 43 games if he averages 27.1 points per game next season.
