Cale Maker is a Canadian. He was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is of Ukrainian descent on his father’s side. Growing up, he was a fan of the hometown Calgary Flames.

Cale is a professional ice hockey defenceman for the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League. He was selected with the fourth overall pick by the Avalanche in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Cale won the Calder Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year in 2019-20 and the James Norris Memorial Trophy as defensive player of the year in 2021-22, becoming the sixth and first Avalanche player to win the awards respectively.
Cale’s cousin, Logan also plays collegiate hockey at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
