Burt Young, the Oscar-nominated actor who portrayed Paulie, Sylvester Stallone’s rough-hewn, mumbling, and grumbling closest friend, sidekick, and brother-in-law in the “Rocky” movies, has passed away.

Young, who was born and reared in Queens, New York, served in the Marine Corps, competed as a professional boxer, and worked as a carpet layer before deciding to pursue acting and studied at the Actors Studio under renowned mentor Lee Strasberg. He frequently portrayed working-class tough guys or small-time bad guys on stage, in movies, and on television.

In a brief but famous scene from the 1974 film “Chinatown,” he portrays a fisherman who loses his cool when Jack Nicholson’s private eye Jake Gittes shows him images demonstrating his wife’s infidelity. Later in life, he concentrated on acting in plays and painting.

He was, however, married to Gloria DeLouise, who sadly passed away in 1974. She died, but the reason why is still a mystery. Her age, birthdate, level of education, and line of work are also unclear.

83 years old was the death age of Burt Young. What led to his death was not immediately evident. According to the New York Times, Young passed suddenly on October 8 in Los Angeles.
