Burt Young, who was nominated for an Academy Award and was best remembered for playing Paulie in the “Rocky” movie series, passed away at the age of 83, his manager told ABC News.

He costarred in the 1974 film “Chinatown” with John Huston, Jack Nicholson, and Faye Dunaway as Curly. Young co-starred opposite James Caan in the movie “The Gambler,” which featured a professor who runs into financial difficulties due to his gambling debt, as Carmine in the same year.

In the 1970s, Young played a variety of characters on television, such as Hustling (1975), Serpico (1976), and The Rockford Files (1976). But he was best recognized for his career-defining performance as Paulie, Sylvester Stallone’s beloved yet cynical character’s brother-in-law, who appeared in all six “Rocky” movies up to “Rocky Balboa” in 2006.

Burt Young, a former professional boxer-turned-actor who won an Oscar nod for his work in the blockbuster 1976 film Rocky with Sylvester Stallone, passed away early this month in Los Angeles, according to his daughter, who spoke to The New York Times.
The 83-year-old’s death was not given a cause.
