Who Was Bruce Murray (Cricketer)?
Bruce Murray was a Test cricketer known for playing 13 Tests as a right-handed opening batsman for New Zealand.
Murray played for several seasons in the Plunket Shield, and became his team’s highest scorer, with 351 runs at an average of 43.87.

Upon retirement from the game, Murray worked as a school principal from 1981 to 2002, at Tawa College near Wellington, and later at Naenae College in Lower Hutt.

Murray additionally served as president of Cricket Wellington for four years.
He also wrote several textbooks on geography and was appointed a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order for public services during the late Queen’s Golden Jubilee Honours.
Murray passed away from an unknown cause on January 10, 2023, at age 82.
He was married to his wife Shona and had three daughters, a son, and grandchildren.
His granddaughters Amelia Kerr and Jess Kerr are also international cricketers, with the former appearing in the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup.
