His son, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, followed in his father’s footsteps as a singer and multi-instrumentalist in the Melbourne psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.
Much like his father’s band, Kenny-Smith’s King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard has seen huge success in Australia despite little chart recognition in the UK.
Broderick Smith died at the age of 75 on 30 April 2023. In a statement released by his son Ambrose Kenny-Smith, he ‘died peacefully at home’ over the weekend.

He added, “I hope you finally find the holy grail of harmonica tones wherever you are. “I adore you to pieces. Without you, I’m lost, but the show must go on. “Goodbye, for now, you beautiful lil weirdo wombat.”

Broderick Smith was a member of the 1970s bands Sundown, Carson and the Dingoes, and Broderick Smith’s Big Combo in the 1980s, as well as recording and performing solo and in duos.
Broderick Smith was involved in the creation of over 200 songs and taught songwriting, harmonica, and vocals workshops.
