The Hamilton County community is mourning the loss of Brigid Kelly, the former Hamilton County Auditor, who passed away on Tuesday, March26 2024, after a valiant two-year battle with esophageal cancer.

Kelly, aged 41, had resigned from her position less than a week before her death, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to her community.
Kelly’s diagnosis with esophageal cancer in 2022 marked the beginning of a challenging journey, during which she continued to serve with unwavering commitment until her health necessitated her resignation.
In a statement released by the county, Kelly’s passing was described as a profound loss for her loved ones and the community she served.
“Brigid’s failing health necessitated her recent resignation as Hamilton County Auditor. She was a treasured wife, daughter, and sister, a valued friend, and a true public servant,” the statement read.

Throughout her tenure as Hamilton County Auditor, Kelly demonstrated a deep sense of dedication to her constituents and a relentless pursuit of equity and justice.

She led initiatives to modernize processes within the Auditor’s Office, including the reappraisal of 350,000 parcels of land and efforts to enhance the Board of Revision process.
Kelly’s impact extended beyond her role as an auditor. Prior to her tenure as County Auditor, she served as a State Representative and as a member of the Norwood City Council.
Her time in public office was characterized by a steadfast commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of her constituents.
Tributes poured in from fellow public officials and community members, highlighting Kelly’s indelible mark on Hamilton County.
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval described her as an “irreplaceable kind of spirit,” while County Commission President Alicia Reece mourned the loss of a “champion for our citizens and a true public servant.”
Sheriff Charmaine McGuffy and County Commissioner Denise Driehaus also lauded Kelly’s dedication to serving her community, noting her lifelong commitment to fighting for justice and dignity for all.
