Brian Robinson (cyclist) Cause of Death

Brian Robinson, the first British rider to win a Tour de France stage, died at the age of 91 on October 25, 2022.

His death was announced on Twitter by his grandson, fellow cyclist Jake Womersley: “It’s with great sadness that the family of Brian Robinson have to announce his passing yesterday.”

Robinson won Tour de France stages in 1958 and 1959, and he was the first British rider to complete cycling’s most famous race in 1955.

Robinson retired at the age of 33. Robinson was named the ninth-best British rider of the twentieth century by Cycling magazine.

Robinson helped organise a dinner in August 2005 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first British Tour de France competitors. The event aimed to bring together all British riders who had competed in the Tour since 1955.

He was inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame in 2009. In the 2017 New Year Honours, Robinson was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to charity and cycling.
