Brian Langton was a politician with the Australian Labor Party who served as both the mayor of Kogarah in Sydney’s St. George neighborhood and the representative for Kogarah in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. He passed away on October 16, 2023.

Maroubra, a suburb of Sydney, is where Brian was born. He attended Marist Brothers School in Kogarah and had a keen interest in politics at a young age, winning election to the Kogarah Council in 1971 at the age of just 23. He was elected mayor in 1979 and 1980 after twelve years on the council.

Due to his role in a political controversy in April 1998, Langton resigned from his position as minister after the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) found him guilty of dishonestly robbing the government of charter jet fees.

Brian left behind possessions that belonged to him and his spouse, Elizabeth Michalak. After the Independent Commission Against Corruption determined that Langton had engaged in corrupt behavior in the rorting of express connection charter aircraft expenses, he resigned from the NSW government in 1998.
