On October 16, 2023, Brian Langton, an Australian Labor Party official who held the positions of mayor of Kogarah in Sydney’s St. George neighborhood and representative for Kogarah in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, passed away.

In the Maroubra neighborhood of Sydney, Brian was born. In 1971, at the age of just 23, he was elected to the Kogarah Council while still a student at Marist Brothers in Kogarah. He shown an early interest in politics. He was elected mayor in 1979 and 1980 and served on the council for twelve years.

After the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) found Langton guilty of dishonestly rorting charter plane expenses, he resigned from his ministerial duties in April 1998 due to his involvement in a political crisis.

In addition to his seven grandchildren, Brian is survived by his wife Elizabeth, daughters Davina, Adele, and Celia. Brian served as the President of St. George AFL for 20 years while also serving on the NSW AFL Judiciary. He participated at numerous community events, the Wayside Chapel, Lifeline, Meals on Wheels, St. Vincent De Paul, and many other organizations.
