Bret Gilliam obituary

Bret Gilliam was a well-known American author and scuba diver who was born on February 3, 1951, and he died on October 8, 2023. In 1971, Gilliam founded Ocean Tech, a consulting firm that offered expert witness testimony in instances involving diving and maritime matters.

In over 400 court cases since 1973, he has participated in almost exactly equal numbers of plaintiff and defense litigation. (A lawsuit in which he testified for the plaintiffs as the maritime and diving expert witness resulted in a $12 million settlement in May 2015)

Additionally, Gilliam has provided testimony in court-martial processes for the U.S. Marine Corps and testified in criminal prosecutions. Serving as a special consultant in a variety of capacities for the U.S.
