A construction worker from Boston was killed Saturday, April 30 evening after falling several stories in the heart of downtown Boston due to a partial collapse of the Government Center parking garage. Boston Fire Commissioner John Dempsey stated that the victim was operating heavy machinery when the floor “buckled” and the machine fell about nine stories with the man inside.

The man was doing demolition work inside the garage when the floor gave way beneath the vehicle as it approached the building’s edge, according to Dempsey.
According to a Boston EMS spokeswoman, a second person was also hospitalised, and the victim was “indirectly involved” in the collapse.
In brief, remarks made on the scene, Mayor Michelle Wu called the death a “horrible tragedy” on Saturday, April 30th, and said an investigation into the accident was already underway.
