Bontle Mashiyane’s mangled body was discovered near her home on Saturday, May 21, after she went missing in April. On the day she went missing, Mashiyane was playing with other children near her home. The community mounted a big search for the young child.

The child’s head, according to Premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, was merely an empty skull with no eyes, ears, or tongue. A 40-year-old man allegedly raped the six-year-old before murdering her.
The family had hoped to find their little girl alive, but when they discovered her body, they were crushed.

The three suspects detained in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 6-year-old Bontle Mashiyane appeared in Mpumalanga’s Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court and had their case adjourned until June 24, 2022.
Collen Hlongwane, 36, Thapelo Ngomane, 25, and Ntombi Mgwenya, 40, who are Bontle’s neighbours were all remanded. The suspects are charged with kidnapping, human trafficking, rape, and murder, according to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.
