Bobrisky, the controversial cross-dresser, whose real name is Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, has been sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine for abusing the Nigerian currency, the naira.

The verdict was delivered by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos, who emphasized that the judgment aims to deter others from similar acts of abusing and mutilating the naira.
The offense occurred on March 24, 2024, and is a violation punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
In addition to the primary charge, Bobrisky faced several other counts. Among them, the cross-dresser was accused of tampering with sums of money, including N50,000 at Aja Junction, Ikorodu, between July and August 2023, and N20,000 at various events in Dec. 2023 and Oniru, Victoria Island.

Furthermore, Bobrisky allegedly failed to declare the activities of his trading company, Bob Express, to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering.
Over the period of September 1, 2021, to April 4, 2024, significant sums totaling N127.7 million and N53 million were deposited into the company’s account with Ecobank.
The court found Bobrisky guilty on all counts, resulting in the six-month imprisonment sentence without the possibility of a fine.
