Tributes have been pouring in after his death was announced.
“One of our greatest screenwriters has died. Melvin and Howard alone would earn him his place in history, but there was also Cuckoo’s Nest, The Rose, The Flamingo Kid, and Shoot the Moon… RIP Bo Goldman, a master not replaceable by AI or lesser talents,” Mark Harris wrote.

“This is sad. Bo Goldman’s wife looked after Mattiessen’s son while Peter was hiking the Snow Leopard Trek. Bo was writing Cuckoo’s Nest at the time. A generational talent,” Lance Richardson.

“He co-wrote what is probably Milos Forman’s best movie and then he wrote what is definitely Jonathan Demme’s best movie. And in a rare burst of good taste at the Academy, he won Oscars for both of them. R. I. P,” Jesse Walker wrote.
“So Sad to hear about the passing of Bo Goldman. Truly one of the great Hollywood screenwriters, his scripts always had such amazing energy & life, and his empathy for his characters was enchanting. “Melvin & Howard” is my favorite script of his & one of the greatest movies ever. RIP,” Drew Taylor.
